With direction from the VP and Managing Editor, the Sr. Web Editor will manage a team of freelance authors and editors to develop new content for our website. He/she thrives in a collaborative team environment, and has the ability to motivate writers and editors while effectively managing deadlines and priorities. The Sr. Web Editor must have the ability and desire to learn and work across a broad range of subject areas.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in web publishing with a superior understanding of how to optimize content for readability and presentation on the web. He/she possesses knowledge about the technical aspects of web publishing. This individual must have the ability to foster strong relationships with the writers and editors he/she manages and must be willing to participate in the professional development of these individuals.






Roles & Responsibilities
â?¢Plan the content and organization of website content
â?¢Research topic areas and competitive offerings
â?¢Develop site content outline and architecture
â?¢Consult on site navigation and design
â?¢Manage freelance writers and editors
â?¢Participate in the recruitment and selection of freelance writers and editors
â?¢Assign articles, set deadlines and track status of each article
â?¢Give feedback to and develop writers as long term partners
â?¢Review and edit content submissions for content, style, and presentation
â?¢Edit content for spelling, punctuation and grammar errors
â?¢Reformat content to optimize for web
â?¢Ensure freelancers write within voice / tone guidelines
â?¢Identify potentially infringing material






Qualifications

â?¢B.A. in English, journalism, or related field.
â?¢3 to 5 years of editorial experience web publishing.
â?¢Understanding of how people read online and how to optimize content and presentation for the web.
â?¢Demonstrated experience recruiting freelance writers and editors.
â?¢Excellent online writing, editing and proofreading skills.
â?¢Excellent communication skills - capable of delivering constructive feedback in verbal and written formats.
â?¢Ability to learn and work across a broad range of subject areas.
â?¢Demonstrated ability to work effectively within tight deadlines.

Experience/Skills
Qualifications
â?¢ B.A./B.S. degree in graphic design, visual communications, or related field.
â?¢ 4-6 years of experience in graphic design, with an emphasis on web design and new media.
â?¢ Knowledgeable about current Web browser design constraints.
â?¢ Experience in typography, iconography and illustration.
â?¢ Ability to clearly translate creative briefs into finished product.
â?¢ Experience managing projects and meeting strict deadlines.
â?¢ Excellent communication skills.
