Summary:

This is a position within a large Insurance organization, with the primary accountability of specifying, designing project and program solutions for Company. The Solution Architect will provide strong end to end leadership in the definition and build out of solutions as part of project teams. This architect would be accountable for selecting appropriate solution alternatives and driving the entire technical design for the project including functional, integration, data and infrastructure design, working closely with dedicated resources from each area as needed.

Responsibility:
1) Accountable for solution architecture & design for projects and programs.

Consults on business case definition, business requirements & leads technical requirements gathering and solution design.

2) Conducts proof of concepts and prototyping efforts where needed to manage risk

3) Accountable for identifying converging business needs across the enterprise and mapping to consolidated technology solutions

4) Accountable for management of vendor solutions within program delivery lifecycle

5) Alignment of solution architecture with enterprise architecture strategy & roadmap and leverage of frameworks & standards into project solutions.

Consults and provides input to the enterprise architecture strategy roadmap.

Deliverables:

Program and project designs including design artifacts according to Company standards and in line with the size and risk of the specific project.

Aligment of application & solution architecture with enterprise architecture. Increased quality and accountability of solutions, better leverage of vendors as a commodity and helps to strengthen the the brain trust behind how we build and maintain systems at Company.

Experience needed:

3-5 years as a solution or enterprise architect.

Previous consulting experience preferred.

Superior writen and verbal communications skills including the ability to present solutions to senior management and sell the value of the recommended solution.

Exceptionally strong problem solving, analytical and decision making skills required

1. Solution Architecture Skills

Strong proven leadership skills. Ability to drive solution and application design process and hold others accountable to achieving solution scope. Demonstrated experience (3-5 years) in either enterprise or solution architect roles previously.

Experience in defining and implementing complex distributed application solutions. Experience with all aspects of the software development lifecycle. Strong skills with requirements & design modeling using notation such as UML.

Excellent understanding of enterprise architecture best practices and ability to influence solution design with these principles.

Sound knowledge of technology stack, tools and solutions made possible through them including, but not limited to:

Enterprise and web content management solutions

Enterprise Application Integration strategies & SOA. Service identification and definition.

Call center & CTI solutions

Packaged application implementations (PeopleSoft, Siebel, Epiphany)

Business Rule engines

Data warehousing strategies, operational data stores, enterprise data model approaches, business intelligence solutions

Business Process Management and Enterprise Performance Management solutions

Application frameworks (J2EE/MVC, .NET)

Application server environments (Websphere/Weblogic, .NET)

Hardware platforms (UNIX & Wintel) and systems management design

Security strategies and approaches for solutions

Disaster Recovery concerns for applications

Experience in travel and/or insurance industries a plus.

Solid vendor management experience with the ability to lead vendors through solution design and assess vendor tooling and sourcing options along the way.

2. Project & Resource Management skills

Expertise with project management practices such as Schedule Management, Cost Management, Resource Management, Risk Management.

3. Communication Skills

Demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels and types of organizational situations

Effective written communications skills to develop Statement of Works (SOW), Risk Summary, and other program documentation

Ability to mentor and foster growth of solution architecture competencies across the rest of the organization.
