Description
Our client is seeking an IBM AIX UNIX System Engineer in Houston, TX. This is a permanent position. Candidates must be fully authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. This is a Senior UNIX System Administrator/Engineer position. As part of the Server System Administration team, you will work with a team of Solaris, AIX, and Windows system administrators/engineers, network engineers, and application engineers to maintain and enhance an existing computer network infrastructure. The computer network consists of a heterogeneous mix of computing hardware and software platforms, including production and DR mainframes, Servers and workstations, using off-the-shelf as well as custom software applications. This position interfaces occasionally with internal users, developers, management, IS Engineers, and Change Management personnel. Responsibilities include system scalability, redundancy, performance, and functionality of all aspects of IBM AIX Servers including:
  • Break/fix incidences
  • Upgrade projects
  • System customization
  • System integration
  • Will troubleshoot complex problems with root cause analysis
  • Communicate problems and solutions both verbally and in writing to internal customers and management
  • Create and follow standard processes, plan effectively to complete tasks on schedule, and clearly document results
Tasks will be varied and range from day-to-day IBM hardware and AIX OS (some Sun Solaris would be beneficial) and application run-time support, engineering upgrades and new systems, to supporting process definition and implementation. You will see that operational requirements are met by understanding the project impacts to Service Level Agreements. You will participate in meetings with Project Teams, Architecture Standard Working Groups, and Change Management.
