Description
Kforce is seeking an IBM AIX UNIX System Engineer for a SLC, Utah client. This is a permanent opportunity! This is a senior UNIX System Administrator/Engineer position. As part of the Server System Administration Team, you will work with a team of Solaris, AIX, and Windows System Administrators/Engineers, Network Engineers, and Application Engineers to maintain and enhance an existing computer network infrastructure. The computer network consists of a heterogeneous mix of computing hardware and software platforms including production and DR mainframes, servers, and workstations; using off-the-shelf as well as custom software applications. This position interfaces occasionally with internal users, developers, management, IS Engineers, and Change Management personnel. Responsibilities Include:
  • System scalability, redundancy, performance, and functionality of all aspects of IBM AIX Servers including Break/Fix incidences
  • Upgrade projects
  • System customization
  • System integration
  • Troubleshoot complex problems with root cause analysis
  • Communicate problems and solutions verbally and in writing to internal customers and management
  • Create and follow standard processes
  • Plan effectively to complete tasks on schedule and clearly document results
  • Tasks will be varied and range from day-to-day IBM hardware and AIX OS (some Sun Solaris would be beneficial), application run-time support, and engineering upgrades and new systems to supporting process definition and implementation
  • Operational requirements are met by understanding the project impacts to Service Level Agreements
  • Participate in meetings with Project Teams, Architecture Standard Working Groups, and Change Management
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices, system benchmarks, and utilize your overall technical acumen (essential)

AIX System Engineer Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of AIX experience working with highly reliable/available systems
  • Being Certified in IBM AIX (Sun Solaris administration or equivalent experience) is a plus
  • Skill in UNIX security, experience supporting Oracle, DB2, BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere (or similar) environments, and a working knowledge of TCP/IP networks and topology is required
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States of America without sponsorship. Preferred Skills Include:
  • HACMP and SAN experience
  • Experience of supporting Internet applications is a bonus
