Description
Senior application monitoring administrator responsible for the overall monitoring strategy for web based platforms ensuring that all critical components of the service are monitored. The position has two primary functions; technical administration of the application performance management tools (Wily Introscope, JBoss ON) and integration with the enterprise management tool (Tivoli Netcool). Responsible for conducting technical assessments for each platform and provide current state, gap analysis and recommendations relative to monitoring. Consult on new projects to understand impact to monitoring strategy.

  • Develops and implements application monitoring strategies as well as performance standards
  • Gather requirements from the application development and application server administration teams relative to application monitoring
  • Implement, configure, document and maintain application performance monitoring solutions (Wily Introscope, JBoss On) for web based platforms
  • Integrate application monitoring tools with the enterprise management system (Tivoli Netcool)
  • Interface with internal resources such as Application Developers, Database Administrators, Web and Application Server Administrators, and Infrastructure Support Staff
  • Define key data elements to be captured at the application layer and identify performance benchmarks and thresholds
  • Liaise with key infrastructure technology teams to define performance benchmarks
  • Develop customized dashboards/consoles, metric groupings, monitoring and alerting for early problem detection and identification
  • Lead testing and implementation of all events generated from the application layer
  • Lead proactive initiatives that minimize the need to be reactive to problems
  • Assist in interpretation of diagnostic data obtained from monitoring solutions to identify, diagnose and resolve performance issues
  • Work closely with internal teams for each application platform providing best practice information and implementation of monitoring solutions
  • Create and distribute reports including performance metrics, trending analysis and event generation by platform
  • Assess and devise strategies to consolidate existing application monitoring tools
  • Reviews, recommends, and implements additional monitoring tools as they relate monitoring strategies



    Technical Qualifications: The ideal candidate will combine a solid understanding of web applications, application performance monitoring, and system health analysis. Demonstrated experience administering application monitoring tools and integration with enterprise monitoring tools such as Tivoli, Netcool, HP OpenView, is required.
  • Experience implementing and administering Wily Introscope
  • Exhibit understanding of J2EE architecture, JVM, JMS/MQSeries messaging, and thread management
  • Experience with WebLogic and JBoss Application Server
  • Strong performance analysis and problem solving skills
  • Experience interfacing with vendors to report and resolve product/performance issues
  • Knowledge of ITIL, ITSM, Problem Management, and Change Management


    Education/Experience
    Four year college degree and 6 or more years professional experience or 8 or more years professional experience is required. A working knowledge of Visual Basic, C++, JAVA Script or Lotus Notes Development is required. Appropriate TSYS experience is preferred. Experience in an analytical, research, or project management environment in the credit card or software industry, or other related environment is preferred.
