Description


We are seeking a programmer for application development and operational support within our Applications Communications Development (ACD) unit. The ACD unit is responsible for systems that provide inter-process communication at Great Lakes. Examples include programs that automatically receive files via email and FTP from external organizations and decrypt, translate and route them to the appropriate internal business units. The framework used for creating new applications is queue based services strung together using an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).


Duties include coding, testing, maintenance and support of application communications systems and the development of web-based utilities and configuration tools. Additional responsibilities involve the maintenance and operational support of systems supplied by external vendors. You will also be expected to advise and guide internal and external customers in the use of the communication systems.


Training on existing systems that support file transfers will be provided.


Qualifications



Required Skills:

  • Knowledge equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science

  • Moderate to high experience with Java, JavaScript, HTML and SQL

  • Moderate to high experience with the J2EE Framework using technologies such as Servlets and JSPs.

  • Strong oral and written communication and customer service skills

  • Availability for On-Call duties



    • Desired Skills:

  • Object Oriented Analysis and Design

  • Moderate to high experience with Windows systems administration

  • Knowledge of internet file transfer protocols such as FTP, SMTP and POP3

  • Knowledge of encryption technologies such as PGP, GPG, SSL/SSH

  • Experience with web-based tools and scripting languages such as Perl

  • Experience working with messaging middleware such as WebSphere MQ

  • Experience working with an Eclipse based IDE (e.g. WebSphere Studio Application Developer)

  • Knowledge of Unix and Linux operating systems

  • Exposure to OS/390 systems
