Applications Development Manager - 1HL-554069

A Thompson Technologies client has an immediate need for a permanent/direct-hire Applications Development Manager in Atlanta, GA. This is a high profile position in a thriving niche market environment.

Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and deployment of custom applications; implement new vendor software packages, and/or major enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.
- Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
- Ensure that any new software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
- Establish resource needs, skills sets, training and development needs for all resources.
- Lead and provide direction to the applications development staff in support of business operations.
- Conduct performance appraisals and perform salary administration.
- Manage an internal team of up to 5 developers and 20 consultants, including interviewing, hiring, and firing.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley controls and procedures.
- Assist the CIO in preparing, establishing, and monitoring budgets.
- Provide regular reporting on overall status, resources and issues as needed to ensure successful development and application delivery.

Requirements:
- Degree in Management Information Systems or Business Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in an insurance environment 
- Property and Casualty (preferred) and/or Life.
- Minimum of 10 years experience to include at least 5 years in a management/supervisory role and experience working in a regulated support environment.
- Must have both package implementation and custom application development experience.
- 5 years experience in: MS SQL Server 2000 Database Administration, HTML, ASP, ASP.NET, Visual Basic 6, VB.NET, Visual Studio .NET., XML & associated technologies, MS Visual SourceSafe, Windows 2000/2003 Servers.
- Specific experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and solid understanding of transaction and information systems, data warehouses, data marts, ODS, and life cycle as well as ETL and MDM technologies.
- Experience in developing and implementing IT architecture plans, information architecture integration standard and guidelines, software development methodologies and strategic plans.
- Experience in developing information sharing standards and architecting scalable service oriented solutions.
- Help Desk and/or ITIL Foundations Certification are a plus.
- PMP certification is a plus.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, communication skills.
