Associate Design Engineer

• Document steps to install, upgrade, and backup and recovery operating systems for use by testers, customer support personnel, and wireless application engineers.
• Use existing documented procedures to install, configure and maintain test and development systems.
• Maintain rack usage plans.
• Uses structured development practices to design, code, compile, and test production programs of a complex nature.
• Code and test scripts used to abstract system and network management functions.
• Document the existing Operating Platform Management System (OPMS) development environment.
• Provide Tier III support for system hardware, Operating System and application related issues.
• Review operating systems patches for applicability to current products.
• Quality orientation with a strong eye for detail.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented, with strong analytical skills.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

• Experienced with integration and deployment issues involved in supporting a turnkey product in a customer environment
• 3 + years experience with Sun Microsystems (Solaris).
• Minimum 3 years experience with UNIX System Administration.
• Minimum 2-3 years experience with standard UNIX tools, ie, SED AWK, GREP.
• Minimum 3 years experience with Bourne Shell scripting.
• Minimum 1-3 years experience with Sun Jumpstart and JASS toolkit.
• Sun Jumpstart and JASS toolkit.
• Bachelors Degree (preferably in Computer Science or similar discipline) from a four-year college or equivalent experience.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

• Experience with Perl Scripting is a plus.
• Experience with Cisco Networking is a plus.
• Experience with system security and network security is a plus.
• Experience and understanding of the telecommunications industry is a plus.
• Database configuration and management a plus.
• Rational Clear Case preferred.
