Our client, located Northwest of Atlanta, has an immediate need for a BioMedical Director of Engineering for a full-time, permanent position in Georgia. The candidate will be responsible for both the design and manufacturing engineering departments in all BioMedical worldwide manufacturing sites as well as the divisional offices. Critical success factors for this role include exceptional leadership ability, continuous improvement in cost and quality, engineering project completion to plan, developing human resources, enforcing engineering standards, and driving innovation. This position requires the unique combination of skills to support and improve current production designs; incorporate acquired production designs; and create new, innovative designs to lead the company to attain aggressive growth goals. Responsibilities include:
Analyze and optimize all aspects of engineering project management, using planning, monitoring and controlling processes to project completion on time and within budget.
Identify and offer solutions to manage projects when issues and risks arise or to accommodate project scope changes concerning resources and schedules.
Identify, lead, and/or participate in major cost improvement programs for existing products.
Lead the implementation of new products and improvement of existing products to achieve the highest quality, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.
Lead the development and implementation of the appropriate processes, equipment, fixtures, work cell layout, work instructions, and validation protocol.
Lead the evaluation of current manufacturing and design processes for improvement in the areas of documentation, throughput, capability, repeatability, accuracy, and efficiency.
Lead the development and implementation of processes where formal processes may not exist.
Manage the engineering team dynamics, rosters and tooling necessary to implement a system that ensures safety, performance and reliability of products as outlined by senior management policies.
Facilitate the use of the quality approaches such as Statistical Process Control, Root Cause Corrective Actions, Six Sigma, etc. to achieve and maintain process quality and efficiency.
Facilitate cooperation with Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing departments to improve quality and reliability.
Lead the implementation of lean manufacturing and engineering techniques.
Manage Designers, Drafters and Engineers and provide annual evaluations on performance and expectations.
Develop and manage the recruiting, on-boarding, and training processes for new hires.
Develop budgets for design and manufacturing engineering activities, working closely with Product Management, Manufacturing Management, and Senior Management.
Manage the process from design concept through manufacturing.
Required Education/Skills/Experience:
Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline. MBA degree preferred but not required.
Minimum of 10 years previous management experience in a technical role.
Excellent personal skills in leadership, coaching, and both written and verbal communication.
Proven project management skills.
Success in leading diverse groups of people.
Demonstrated success in organizing, developing, and managing technical personnel.
Demonstrated success in contributing significantly to growth of the organization.
Experience articulating and negotiating the consensus on a final vision of the product from scoping of the requirements of all stakeholders.
Thorough understanding and experience with Quality Systems.
Well-versed in medical device regulations and requirements in the Americas, Europe, and Asia
