Business Analyst

The primary role of the Business Analyst is to perform activities for an accounting system upgrade for the Comptrollers Office. This position will work at the Comptrollers Office located at One Center Street.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of the Citys annual financial statements
• Analyze and document business requirements
• Obtain thorough understanding and documentation of current processes, proposed system designs and deficiencies for recommendation of system enhancements
• Test software to ensure it meets specifications and identify any defects
• Test software issues and defects reported by business users and others
• Investigate and resolve software issues and defects reported by business users and others
• Work with consultants and technical analysts to research problems and find and implement solutions
• Communicate issues and status to management and others
• Assist the Division Chiefs with development and composition of management policies and procedures
• Rotate assignments among the Bureaus various divisions
• Assist in various special projects

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong MS Suite, Crystal, Excel, and MS Access database experience
• Report writing abilities using third party reporting tools (ie, Crystal and MS Access)
• Demonstrated ability for attention to detail
• Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
• Hands-on, in depth knowledge of accounting business processes and practices (knowledge of government accounting a strong plus)
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills (ie analysis, problem re-creation and very detailed oriented).

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years experience working with accounting systems
• Experience on an accounting system development/deployment project highly desired.

Education

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course in each of the following: advanced accounting, auditing, and cost accounting.
