Our Customer is the leading e-marketing and information services firm supporting the global hospitality marketplace. Current revenues in excess of $75mm anually. Headquartered in Chicago, Our Customer consultants are based across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. These consultants assist the hotel industry with effective use of Our Customer products. Our Customer ?s information products allow hotels to monitor historical, current and future e-commerce performance. Its e-media products provide hotels with the ability to target offers in multiple electronic channels. Our Customer e-commerce solutions allow hotels to manage and transact e-commerce across multiple channels on a global basis.

Our Customer has grown rapidly over six years primarily through internal growth complemented by several strategic acquisitions. While the existing technology infrastructure has supported this growth, going forward Our Customer needs to more rapidly introduce new products, contain cost and position the firm for continued growth.

Our Customer is seeking a Chief Information Officer to work with its senior management team and lead a staff of 70 through a period of rapid change.

The Challenge

The CIO will need to take quick measure of the Our Customer ?s business and product plans as well as the existing information technology infrastructure. An architectural direction for the future should be established by the CIO that is designed to support the demands of the business. This direction should then serve as a guidepost as each tactical decision is taken.

The existing infrastructure lacks a coherent architecture and as a result requires support of multiple development, database and operating environments. This lack of coherence is largely due to rapid internal growth and the acquisition of businesses that had operated independently on differing platforms. A measure of success for the new CIO will be the ability to migrate to a common architecture with each step in the along the way achieving an acceptable financial return.

A critical measure of success will be improvement project management and speed to market of new products and services. Reduction of cycle time and improvement of the responsiveness of the Development organization is essential.

A capacity planning discipline needs to be established with enforced so that product and sales plans are supported adequately as growth occurs. The ability to manage and lower cost of operation is a critical measure of success.

Improved reporting of sales performance needs to be provided to senior management.

Our Customer has partially completed the migration of its system operations from its various offices to a secure outsourced data center. An action plan to complete this migration rapidly is an immediate priority.


Candidate Qualification

The ideal candidate will have at least five years experience leading an information technology organization with at least a decade of IT experience. Experience in Finance, Business Development and Product Marketing roles would provide a strong base for success as a part of the senior management team.

The candidate should have gained disciplined experience in the financial service industry or in a similar business where both real time transaction and information services are vital. Additional experience with a smaller more entrepreneurial organization would also be advantageous. Hospitality industry experience is considered a plus.

The candidate should possess the ability to participate as a key member of Our Customer ?s senior management team while also demonstrating hands-on management of the various technology functions.

A strong grasp of best practice approaches and future information technology trends will be required to rapidly assess the current situation and recommend a proposed direction for the future to the senior management team.

A track record of successfully delivering projects on-time and within budget is a base requirement. Experience managing development teams at multiple locations toward a common goal would be advantageous. An understanding of operating a global business and the differing demands of European, Asian and South American markets would be valuable.This position reports directly to the COO.

Familiarity with the transition to and management of an outsourced IT facility would be a plus.
