Description
This is an opportunity for a student or for someone entry level in IT. The job will provide the opportunity to learn operational skills and practices, and to grow their technical knowledge of computers, operating systems, local area networks, storage area networks, disk storage systems, and tape libraries. The operator will have opportunities to interface with professional staff to develop the operators technical skills.

Responsibilities include:
This individual will be required to work evening, nightly, or weekend shifts, and will be ask to fill-in for other operators during vacations or other absences. The individual will be required to answer a phone and a pager during their shift, and to either correct the problem or to refer it to appropriate technical support. The individual will perform general operational support tasks, such as loading and unloading tape libraries, running LAN and fibre cables for new projects, monitoring environmental conditions, as well as general computer room tasks. The work requirements also include holiday schedules.

Schedule Availability:
To work evening, night, or weekend schedule, 12 hour shifts on weekends, work holidays, and work revised schedules to cover other shifts.

Required Skills:
General knowledge of data processing concepts and practices.
Knowledge of the UNIX operating system, HP-UX in particular.
Basic knowledge of network concepts.

Desired Skills:
Operational skills for HP 9000 Series servers.
Experience with the OS/400 operating system.
Experience with EMC disk storage systems.
Experience with Veritas NetBackup software.
Experience with backup and restore procedures.
Experience with tape libraries and general computer equipment.

The hours on the weekend will be from midnight to noon on Satruday and Sunday. There will also be (2) standard 8 hour days during the normal business week.
