Description
1. As an Oracle database systems expert, provide support in logical/physical data modeling and technical direction to business systems and application development team throughout a major project life cycle.



2. Resolve technical issues related to Oracle (software release, tools, capacity planning, backup and recovery strategies), clear understanding of the design of logical and physical data models and the application code to ensure optimal performance of the system.



3. Design and implement operational database structures. Submit recommendations for solutions that require definition of the physical structure and functional capabilities of databases and require data security and data backup or recovery specifications. Propose detailed specifications and flowcharts and coordinate installation of revised or new systems.



4. Plan, implement, and maintain recovery procedures. Recover affected databases and coordinate the recovery processes with technical support and operations staff. Provide business systems support to maintain the availability and integrity of corporate data during and outside of normal working hours.



5. Assist in the Oracle configuration of underlying operating system on distributed platforms (Sun Solaris and IBM AIX).



6. Review and optimize application SQL, PL/SQL programming and tuning of SQLs.



7. Remain aware of emerging technologies and identify opportunities for the use of specific products for the benefit of the company. Maintain expertise in several DBMS (e.g. Oracle, DB2 distributed), data modeling and logical and physical database design.



8. Adhere strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices; report control weaknesses, compliance breaches and operational loss events.

Experience/Skills
This position requires an individual with:

* A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with a major or minor in Computer Science or related field.

At least 5 years of experience as an Oracle DBA with exposure to all aspects of Oracle Database Administration. Experience with SUN Solaris and IBM AIX platforms required.

Experience with supporting Oracle 9i/10G - development through production.

Experience with troubleshooting any Oracle issues

Expertise in SQL and PL/SQL programming and tuning of SQLs.

Expertise on Oracle backup and recovery and database performance tuning.

Knowledge of shell scripting - Korn shell preferred.

Interest in working in a large team environment and supporting multiple applications.

Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with application development teams.

Knowledge and experience supporting PeopleSoft on Oracle is preferred.

Working knowledge of distributed DB2 (aka DB2 Linux UNIX and Windows) is a plus.

Knowledge of any foreign language is a plus.
