Additional Skills: Must have knowledge of IT concepts such as Db design, DB layout, DB structures, DB stored procedures, DB tables, DFB optimiazation, TCP/IP, IT security concepts and practices; interpersonal, problem solving, organizational and multi-tasking skills.

Knowledge and practical experience with: AIX, SUN Solaris, Linux, LDAP, Site Minder, MS minimum security baseline configuration, IIS installation, FTP, Cisco Load Balancing configuration.

Advanced T-SQL Scripting skills

Proficient Shell Scripting skills

Display a good understanding of both the RDBMS and the underlying operating system including but not limited to:

Database performance tuning, replication, monitoring tools and tuning procedures.

Strong database management skills including backup and recovery best practices in a high-availability environment.

Solid skills in productivity factors and the ability to understand impact of problem on overall database performance

Knowledge of fault detection and resolution processes

Strong skills in maintenance tools and best practices processes.

Up-to-date understanding of PII Security standards and impacts to security modeling.

Use of a data modeling tool such as Erwin, ER/Studio or Designer/2000

Data modeling, data entity analysis, and database design skills may be required

Ability to independently provide project cost and time estimates for database related tasks

Roles and Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for Sybase Database development and support for the client's applications. This group is responsible for Non Prod. support to perform database development work.

The Sr. DBA resolves all database-related issues and works closely with the Development, Project Management and ETS staff. The Sr. DBA documents business requirements and works independently to create database related cost estimates. The Sr. DBA performs database design reviews to enforce best practices and standards and may develop detailed logical data models. The Sr. DBA may also design a physical data model based on the logical data model and implement the physical data model in the database.

The Sr. Sybase Database Administrator (Sr. DBA) must have the ability to architect, design and configure large, complex databases with replication and high-availability on the most current Sybase versions. Will translate logical to physical design, develop comprehensive DB architecture, implementation and upgrade plans and assist in definition of database standards, policies, and procedures.

This position will provide input into overall development/implementation plan and document database builds and changes for use by the Production DBA team. The resource will also perform SQL designs, table designs, and stored procedures work to help the team code applications that utilize a Sybase database.
