Assignment Capsule
As a Technology applications consultant you will: develop an understanding of Humana's business needs and translate those needs into technological systems, design specifications and solutions. You will partner with other associates to analyze, design, develop, implement and integrate moderate and complex business systems that will optimize business outcomes.

  • Ensure that DB2 components of MetaVance releases and patches delivered by vendor are properly installed.
  • Monitor the DB2 performance of MetaVance+ database jobs and CICS transactions.
  • Proactively monitor database space and index utilization, then initiate action to improve utilization as necessary.
  • Research performance issues and recommend corrective action to vendor and/or Humana development teams.
  • Oversee MetaVance database activities such as conversions, region to region copies, backups, restores, etc.
  • Perform database reorgs, as required.
  • Define, implement and maintain the MetaVance Database Backup/Recovery Strategy.
  • Interact with production DBAs to coordinate database structure change activities.
  • Provide consultation in regards to Humana's in-house Metavance database implementation.
  • Provide DB2 counseling and/or training to Metavance+ development teams.

Role Essentials
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience
  • Must have extensive working knowledge of MVS DB2 at a minimum of Ver 7.
  • Must have strong experience analyzing performance problems and recommending corrective action.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ten years of total IT experience.
  • Six years of DB2 Administration experience.
  • Experience with CA/Platinum tool suite including RC/Detector and RC/Migrator


Role Desirables
  • Previous experience in health insurance industry.
  • Experience partitioning large DB2 objects.
  • Experience with CA/Platinum tool suite including RC/Compare and Log Analyzer.
  • Experience with TMON performance monitor.
  • Experience with DB2 Ver. 8
  • Experience with supporting third party application databases.


Reporting Relationships
  • You will report to a Technology Director. This area is under the leadership of the SVP & Chief Operating Officer.
