Description
  • Provides leadership in database technologies, coaches and mentors team members.
  • Performs physical DBA tasks in DB2 on unix platform. Also performs DBA tasks for SQL Server and Oracle environments as necessary.
  • Performance tuning: possesses knowledge of complete application development life cycle and is able to identify and fix performance issues in multiple database environments.
  • Understands current data architecture and provides leadership in development of future architecture keeping industry trends in mind.
  • Reviews and enforces adherence to the company Architecture, as well as database design and usage standards.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of enterprise information model.
  • Understands database high availability technologies and guides implementing appropriate solutions.
  • Understands database audit requirements and helps implement proper security in all database environments.
  • Also, helps implement appropriate audit tools.
  • Provides support in database usage, and database performance. Monitors production databases. Investigates database problems and resolves.
  • Responsible for automating standard tasks. Write scripts on unix and windows platforms as necessary.
  • Quickly learns new technologies to support enterprise initiatives.
  • Designs and builds simple to complex database structures from data models.
  • Facilitates formal and informal discussions to support database designs. Conducts design reviews as required to ensure database design meets application requirements.
  • Designs, maintains, documents and executes database utilities to provide information regarding database activity.
  • Completes assigned special projects.
  • Remains current on rapidly changing technology, defines database standards and seeds appropriate applications. Enhances professional skill currency and proficiency.
  • Excellent communication. Able to explain complex database concepts in layman terms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:
  • B.S. degree
  • Five or more years experience as physical DBA in multiple database platforms - DB2/UDB on AIX, and SQL Server OR Oracle on AIX.
  • 3 or more years of experience in database/application performance tuning and monitoring tools.
  • Experience in database problem identification, problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Experience in building data architecture models and enforcing enterprise architecture standards and guidelines.
  • Experience in design reviews, requirements gathering and platform decision making.
  • Experience in implementing database high availability solutions.
  • Experience in coding and/or debugging stored procedures
  • Experience in working on complex application issues in a multi-tiered environment.
  • Desired: Application development experience.
  • Desired but not required - knowledge of Mainframe z/OS and DB2 on z/OS.
  • Desired but not required: understanding of SAN technology and database dependency.
  • Functional experience in multi-tiered application design and implementation is required.
  • Functional experience in the development of railroad application systems would be desirable.
  • Candidate has excellent communication - ability to explain a technical problem to management.
  • Candidate is a team player. Shares knowledge. Coaches team members. Able to work in high performing teams and deliver under pressure situations.
