Description
An intermediate-level professional, the Data Conversion Specialist uses various tools and languages to extract, transform, and load client legacy data into disparate target application databases in accordance with contractual obligations. Incumbents are competent to work on fairly complex assignments (and/or portions of larger, complex systems) and perform a full range of data conversion services. The incumbent generally works under deadlines and is capable of handling heavy workloads, and operating with only general supervision by the Data Conversion Manager, although errors at this level can cause delay, expense and/or disruption. Incumbents are required to define high-level conversion scope, develop data conversion strategies and estimate work effort, in addition to the programming and documentation required.

REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducts on site analysis of Client legacy system(s) and database(s) with the goal of producing the initial Data Mapping for the Extract process
Define data integrity/cleansing requirements for the Transform process
Preparation of detailed specifications from which programs will be written, or equipment fabricated or installed.
Creates accurate code to Load the data into the target database.
Tests all conversion programs in succession (assembly test) in order to identify programmatic dependencies.
Executes onsite conversion test runs in order to obtain program run times, derive database sizing estimates, and uncover software / hardware / environment constraints.
Creates data verification plans to be used following trial runs at the client site.
Application of configuration management procedures for changes to the operating system files and software.
Participation in the development and preparation of documentation for, but not limited to, procedural, program and user documentation.
Works with users to ensure successful system implementation; may assist in user training.df-tc
