Description
Robert Half Technology is currently accepting applications for a contract to permanent positions as Database Administrators (DBA) with our downtown Seattle client. The DBA will oversee all aspects of the SQL Server environment. The DBA will also make sure the system meets the guidelines for high availability minimizing down time in the case of a system failure. The DBA is also responsible for all aspects of the data including data access, integrity, and analysis. Come join a team focused on transportation initiatives in the Seattle area!

Duties of the DBA:
  • Support multiple SQL Server servers which includes maintaining separate environments including: online transaction processing (OLTP), online analytical processing (OLAP), training, and testing environment.
  • Research, develop, analyze, design and test specialized applications and support utilities using Microsoft Visual Studio, Crystal Reports and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Development and sustaining processes include designing and coding enhancements, investigating and solving reported problems, creating and running tests, supporting documentation updates, and following configuration management and quality assurance procedures.
  • Development of physical models.
  • Creation and administration of database instances and schemas.
  • Database and server capacity planning and tuning for future growth.
  • Develop backup/recovery and data replication plans for high availability.
  • Microsoft SQL Server tuning.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of activities, including maintenance, backups, upgrades, service packs and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems with Microsoft SQL Server software.
  • Develop and maintain reporting for billing, productivity analysis and planning.
  • Reporting is done in both Windows and Web based environments.

    Experience/Skills
  • Experience maintaining a high availability relational database environment.
  • Knowledge of RDMS coding languages such as TSQL, the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR) and Crystal Reports Basic Syntax.
  • Able to develop comprehensive project work plans.
  • Able to effectively work in a management capacity and make sound decisions on an independent basis.
  • Able to learn new technology and/or functional areas quickly and thoroughly.
  • Able to properly delegate work and be overall responsible for its delivery.
  • Able to work in a team environment, while being self-directed to accomplish tasks individually.
  • Able to work in an energetic, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work off-hours and weekends.
  • Ability to be on-call on a rotating schedule.
