Description
The DBA is responsible for the planning, maintenance and development of all aspects of the company's database infrastructure. As a key member of the technology operations team - the DBA will be part of a
self organizing process where he/she takes on whatever is needed to ensure the success of the team and the company.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide overall day-to-day management of existing database servers in production, development
and quality assurance
Oversee capacity planning and provide scalability reports as appropriate
Oversee and/or participate in the installation and set up of new database servers
Oversee and/or implement replication, backup, partitions and storage
Manage benchmarking and performance tuning (index tuning, disk optimizations, etc.) of MySQL
database servers
Implement and maintain database security systems and procedures
Ensure regular database backups and/or restore data as needed
Oversee database upgrades and/or migrations
Ensure best practices and database technologies are used throughout the company
Provide assistance to and educate software developers of applicable database aspects
Establish and maintain relationships with database vendors
Travel to alternate offices as needed (10-20%)
Professional and Personal Qualifications:
BS Computer Science or Engineering (or min. 3 years DBA experience)
Experience with installing, maintaining and tuning MySQL databases
2+ years of experience with MySQL with at least 1 year in a 24x7 Internet-based production
environment
Solid understanding of LINUX systems administration including tuning and optimizing database
servers on LINUX platforms
Experience with UNIX Scripting (Shell, Perl, Python, PHP)
Experience with Data warehousing
Start-up or Internet exposure valuable
Motivated self-starter who likes working on very productive, fast-paced teams
Solid customer services skills including strong communication skillsdf-tc
