Description
Our Minnetonka area client is seeking a Database Administrator. This position is responsible for all activities related to the administration of databases. The Administrator will direct and control the activities related to backup and recovery, replication, security, performance, availability, change control, release management, new and existing database objects and server upgrades and installs. The Database Administrator is responsible for all management and administration of both package and custom developed applications.RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION•Implement and monitor database backup and recover processes, including database and log backups, availability and disaster recovery planning.•Implement and monitor data replication and data transformation services.•Recommend and implement a data security model and perform regular security audits.•Complete performance analysis & tuning of production databases to provide optimal performance and throughput.•Monitor database capacity and plan for necessary hardware and software upgrades.•Establish policies and procedures regarding all database responsibilities.•Provide guidance to developers on database design including data modeling, file organization, table layout, data definition, entity relationships, data dictionaries, design of middle-tier business objects and documentation, with the perspective gained from significant experience.•Work with network and system administrators to coordinate server hardware and software installations and upgrades.•Application environment setup.•Environment support (upgrades, fixes, data refresh)•Support end users and technical users in detection and resolution of systems/software issues.•Perform emergency data changes as required.•Responsible for the management and administration of Cognos 8.0 business intelligence environment.•Responsible for the management and administration of database interfaces•Responsible for the management and administration of enterprise application integration solutions.•Responsible for the management and administration of development, quality assurance, and production custom developed application environments.•Customer service focus is required.•Some travel required•Job requires initiative and ownership•Continual improvement of job skills is expected•Promotion of ideas to improve the environment is encourageddf-tc

Experience/Skills
EDUCATION•Bachelor's degree in related field required. Advanced degree is a plus.EXPERIENCE•Minimum of eight years database design and modeling experience.•Demonstrated experiences in database architecture including data security, data replication strategy, capacity planning, performance analysis and tuning, backup and recover, and availability administration.•Understanding of data warehouse fundamentals, including the use of multidimensional data marts ad cutes for OLAP processing.•Must be organized and be able to plan and follow through on projects.•Functional knowledge of server hardware and networking fundamentals.•Extensive knowledge of multiple DBMS platforms including Oracle 9i, Microsoft SQL 2000, and IBM DB2 on AS/400 V5R1 or greater.•Expert in TSQL and ANSI SQL.•Strong knowledge of network operating systems including Windows 2000/2003•Experience with virtualization technologies including VMWare ESX Server•Experience with Linux or UNIX systems preferred•Experience managing a Cognos PowerPlay environment is required.•Knowledge of Enterprise Application Integration systems is a plus•Experience managing a .Net development environment is preferred.
