Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Provides technical expertise in the design, implementation, backup, recovery, and maintenance of company database systems. Works with internal and external programmers to support application development projects. Participates in major projects as a subject-matter expert on database design and support. Monitors databases to ensure availability, integrity, and security of all critical business data.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily administration of existing databases, including performance monitoring, security validation, capacity planning, and general database administration. Works with the Service Desk, Problem Management, and Change Management to make necessary changes (tuning, SQL optimization, patches, version upgrades, etc.) to ensure optimal data services performance and availability. Verifies daily backups are operating as designed.
- Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) on assigned database-related technology projects. Provides guidance to project managers with regard to risks, issues, costs, constraints, and timelines as it regards the provisioning of database services. Works with IT Governance / Architecture in reviewing standard solutions, and creates recommendations based upon project specifications.
- Designs and implements new databases as directed by IT Management and Portfolio Management Office. Builds the install plan, creates test, QA, and production environments, and coordinates 'go-live' through Change Control and Release Management. Validates through testing and performance monitoring that new data architectures are performing as specified.
- Works with Availability Management to create highly available database systems, within the appropriate cost structures. Establishes replication protocols as necessary to support the availability requirements of the business. Validates that backup / restore strategy is sufficient to adequately mitigate risk of data loss, and implements new processes and procedures for any gaps.
- Works with Capacity Management to build usage forecasts, and to design future-state database architecture. Active participant in the creation of technology capacity plans, including forecasting for hardware, application, and database changes. Drives cost effective utilization of database (software and hardware) resources.
- Assists with BASIS administration in support of on-going SAP projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree required, Computer Science preferred
- Oracle Certified Professional / DBA - preferred
- ITIL Foundations Certification - preferred
- Project Management Professional - preferred
- Oracle Database Administration - 3-5 years
- DB2 Database Administration - 0-2 years
- SQL Server DB administration - preferred, not required
- UNIX Administration - preferred, not required
- Database Design / Mgmt-Understanding of database concepts, including data files, indexes, tablespaces, etc.
- Oracle RDBMS- Oracle relational database management, tools and utilities.
- Project Management-Determination of timelines, resource requirements, risks, and issues as necessary to support effective project completion.
- SAP / Basis-Knowledge of SAP / Basis within an Oracle environment
- Oracle, Oracle Utilities, PL/SQL, TOAD or SQL Navigator - Expert level
- DB2, SQL Server - fundamental Knowledge
- SAP Basis - Advanced Knowledgedf-tc
