Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Database Architect is an expert in data architecture, data warehousing, and data integration. They have a strong command of data modeling tools like ERWin. They are familiar with business intelligence and data mining tools and best practices. They also have a familiarity with ETL tools and processes. They possess strong technical skills to provide leadership and best practices for designing, implementing, and maintaining an efficient, secure, and reliable data infrastructure for complex systems. This person possesses a thorough understanding of the business functions and systems typically associated with the Financial Services industry. Additionally, this position is responsible for analysis, modeling, administration and integration as it relates to the business requirements for transactional and data warehousing purposes.

The Database Architect participates in strategic planning efforts in line with our Database Strategy.

III. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

*Participates on projects as assigned providing expertise related to Database Architecture. Analyzes data and information needs of projects and applications in order to recommend and implement solutions that minimize redundancy and maximize the compatibility of data within and across operating and functional environments. This includes analysis, design, architecture and modeling, and integration of the information as it relates to the business requirements for transactional and reporting purposes. This person is experienced at identifying problems/issues and is highly effective at pursuing and suggesting alternative solutions.

*Supports current systems and databases by providing expertise to maintain and enhance while working with the IT and Business support teams. This may include participation in rotating 24x7 coverage and after hours support. Most of their systems will be the more complex and critical systems within TRP.

*Takes a lead role in one or more strategic information planning efforts to define TRPs efforts and future in areas related to data architecture (i.e.DBMS Platform, Quality, Metadata, Stewardship, Security, Availability, and Compliance etc.) Engages appropriate TRPIT and Business staff to ensure consistency across TRP and communicates effectively with all interested parties. Engages appropriate vendors for briefings on technology direction and architectural vision. Provides cost estimating for any potential projects that are defined and assigned.

*Acts as a liaison between IT and the multiple business areas. Communicates well with customers, maintains positive relationships with business unit contacts and other IT departments, handles customer inquiries and solves problems quickly.

*Develops and extends the teams reputation as a state-of-the-art Information Services organization by attending and making presentations at local and national user groups and conferences, publishing articles describing both the enterprises activities and assessments of technology, and participating with vendors in the assessment of advanced software features.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

*College degree and four years of related work experience, or a minimum of 8 years related work experience

*7+ years experience in data architecture related work

*Comprehensive knowledge of relational database technology, data warehouse dimensional modeling, content modeling, advanced modeling and design tools, and data integration technology and tools.

*Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing

*Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience

*Ability to mentor others

*Excellent oral and written communication skills

*Ability to conceive, communicate, document, and implement strategic concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

*Masters degree in computer-related field/business management

*10+ years experience in data architecture, data strategy, database design, and data integration.

*Library science education and experiencedf-tc
