Database Engineer Level IV
Permanent Position: $90-104K + 15% bonus at Target
Herndon, VA

xScion Solutions, LLC is a leading IT professional services firm in the Washington, DC area supporting firms with their consulting and permanent hiring needs. We are currently seeking an experienced Database Engineer with experience in OLTP and DSS environments.

NOTE: Candidates must be local to the Washington, DC area and have US work authorization - US Citizenship, Green Card or EAD. No exceptions.

Job Description:

* Create and maintain a data architecture to increase the robustness, performance, and scalability of the entire system.
* Contribute substantially to the system architecture, design, and development of the DB layer
* Tune SQL queries and database performance for OLTP and DSS applications within the development environment
* Participate in design and code reviews, documentation of design, implementation of methodologies to ensure high quality software
* Install, manage and optimize a combination of large (500GB to 1TB) Oracle and MySQL databases for the Engineering team.
* Database design, table design, data modeling & performance tuning. Developing stored procedures and triggers, etc.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot database performance problems. Perform database system and SQL profiling activities based on poorly performing use cases. Refactor poorly performing SQL when necessary.
* Review and tune initialization parameters, memory structures and physical data layout for optimal performance.
* Participate in the technology road map process. This includes evaluating new technologies and practices that related to performance and scalability.
* Work with product specialists and team lead to create accurate level of effort estimates and schedules
* Create and maintain tools that simplify Database Support tasks
* Responsible for trouble shooting the performance issues on the application backend & databases
* Perform software maintenance and bug fixes as needed

Experience:

* BS or MS in Comp Science or Engineering preferred.
* 7+ years of experience in development of software products, preferably 3+ years in Internet related technologies.
* Minimum 3-5 years of experience in: database design, setup, and maintenance; product database deployment and operations
* 5+ years of experience as a database administrator and/or developer using Oracle and Mysql
* Qualified candidate must have in-depth Oracle experience with installation, configuration, performance tuning, high availability and application development for enterprise class systems
* Proven strong innovative and analytical ability with extensive implementation skills.
* Proven success in performance optimization for such OLTP and OLAP applications
* Proven track record in building and operating highly scalable/performing/24x7 web-enabled database applications
* Must be a team player, and have excellent communication skills
* Attention to detail, and a commitment to quality work
* Extensive knowledge of Oracle (PL/SQL)
* Experience working in both OLTP and Data Warehouse environments
* Experience with two or more versions of Oracle (8i/9i/10g) on UNIX and/or Windows platforms for an enterprise application
* Experience working with a Product Development team in an agile software development environment
* Demonstrated proficiency of troubleshooting techniques and detail-oriented problem diagnosis
* Knowledge of Oracle JDeveloper, Oracle SQL Developer, TOAD, or equivalent tools
* Prior experience with Oracle AQ a plus.
* Prior experience with Mysql Replication a plusdf-tc
