Description
Systems Integration & Development, an IT solutions provider located in Rockville, Maryland is currently seeking a Desktop Engineer to serve as an advisor to management on all issues related to the enterprise desktop and the supporting server infrastructure. The successful candidate?s responsibilities will include providing updates on new developments and advancements, proposing new and improved IT solutions, investigating and reporting on problems and other issues, and keeping project management updated on task status. This is a full time position located in Washington, DC. Additional roles and responsibilities include: ? Serves as the technical expert working independently and as a member of cross-functional group of technical staff responsible for updating and enhancing the enterprise-wide desktop infrastructure, including application software and the server-based software supporting this infrastructure. ? Research, plan, design, and implement enterprise-wide desktop and the supporting server infrastructure services for more than 5,000 users nationwide. ? Identifies and develops requirements, conducts market research, and designs solutions to the requirements. ? Participate in the planning of new technologies or services within area of expertise and may serve as team lead on projects to develop and implement new desktop services. ? Recommends appropriate actions regarding cost-effectiveness of proposed solutions and preferred approaches; offers technical solutions to ensure success of projects, the security of the IT environment and the efficient use of IT and related resources. ? Determines what hardware, software, and OS upgrades are required and ensures that all upgrades are completed as scheduled, and that appropriate documentation exists prior to implementation. ? Ensures the rigorous application of Federal information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices. ? Responsible for planning and overseeing implementation of the chosen solution(s) including responsibility for coordinating the implementation among all affected teams, including with the security and policy teams. Experience: ? Minimum of 6 years experience in desktop operations and administration, or similar work, in a medium-to-large scale environment. ? Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field is strongly preferred. Four years or more of directly related work experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Skills: ? Extensive knowledge of desktop system and application software and associated desktop hardware, network and server environments. ? Familiar with the development and maintenance of custom desktop software applications. ? In-depth understanding of system interrelationships and how large-sized IT infrastructures (3,000-5,000 users) are operated, maintained and enhanced and how new and enhanced systems are planned and integrated into the infrastructure. ? Thorough knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Windows desktop systems including common application software. ? Familiarity with Linux/UNIX or other operating systems. ? Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. ? Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work as a member of teams with multi-functional technical abilities. ? Expert organizational skills. ? Strong verbal and written communication skill. ? Must be organized and detail-oriented. ? Must have a team player attitude. ? Ability to interact with all levels of an organization in a professional, diplomatic and tactful manner.
