Description
Robert Half Technology is seeking a very strong Desktop Support Technician for a 6 month contract-to-hire position.The ideal candidate will:• Take direction from Chief-Information Technology.• Maintain contact with vendors for pricing and purchase of software and hardware.• Specify, coordinate and provide user support associated with the purchase of computer software or hardware, ensuring compatibility of the software and hardware throughout the company.• Assist employees in learning to use company owned software and hardware systems. • Provide administration and system security support for network operations including managing user's logon and e-mail accounts.• Assist Network Administrator in maintaining a network disaster recovery plan including regular backups and off site storage to ensure security and integrity of network information for retrieval from archived backup.• Troubleshoot and fix/repair all operational and compatibility problems associated with company owned or developed software in a helpdesk environment. • Troubleshoot and fix/repair all operation and compatibility problems associates with company owned or developed software in a helpdesk environment.• Assist Network Administrator in maintaining a corporate software and hardware inventory.• Assist Network Administrator in maintaining desktop and laptop hardware/software change log. • Research, test, and implement system improvements and upgrades such as software patches, computer BIOS upgrades, hardware components, etc.• Maintain contact with information technology field and keep Chief-Information Technology aware of information technology changes and innovations. • Work as a "team player" with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions that meet the best interests of all parties involved.

Experience/Skills
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:Computer Science degree or 4-5 years equivalent experience required. MCP certification is desired. Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in a technical environment maintaining desktop and laptop computers and related software in a networked or related infrastructure. Understanding of TCP/IP and associated Internet protocols (DNS, DHCP, WINS, etc.). Working knowledge of networking topologies and their connectivity issues (Ethernet, switches, hubs, patch panels, etc.). Ability to install/upgrade, test, configure, troubleshoot, and repair desktop operating systems such as Microsoft Windows 98/2000/XP Professional, Microsoft® Office and other similar software packages. Significant experience building, upgrading and diagnosing failed components of Intel based desktop and laptop computers such as Dell/IBM/HP/Compaq, and printer systems such as Compaq and HP. Ability to organize multiple work assignments and meet budget and time requirements. Ability to work overtime as needed and respond to calls during off hours, an articulate self-starter with the initiative to learn new systems. Outstanding written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to provide efficient and courteous service by e-mail, phone, and in person. Ability to communicate and work with co-workers and managers of all levels.
