Description
Development Geologist in the Gulf of Mexico Business Units Applied Reservoir Management (ARM) Team. The Business Unit remains very active on the Shelf and will continue to grow in its Deepwater operations over the next several years. The ARM Team supports both Shelf and Deepwater Asset Teams identifying and maturing projects aimed at improving recovery factor (resources to reserves). We also work to sustain and improve organizational fluency in a wide range of reservoir management practices.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of reservoir characterization and earth modeling studies utilizing a variety of tools and applications (ex. Stratworks, Seisworks, GOCAD, Petra, etc.). The Business Unit manages thousands of oil and gas reservoirs which range widely in size and drive mechanism. Study objectives will therefore run the spectrum from determining infill drilling potential to consideration of horizontal wells to designing waterfloods to assessing gas injection feasibility. These subsurface characterization and performance prediction studies are performed in close partnership with other ARM Team members and Asset Team members as projects are matured from conception through CPDEP Phase 4.

The successful candidate will also be expected to proactively work towards expanding organizational capability in techniques related to integrated interpretation and earth modeling. We do so by learning ourselves, by providing mentoring, training and consultation to members of our Reservoir Management community and by sharing, adopting and adapting appropriate technical solutions and streamlined/simplified workflows. As such, networking within the company and across Industry and alignment with Business Unit i-field initiatives will be key aspects of this job.

The successful candidate(s) will have a strong background in development geology, including seismic interpretation, with a track record of achieving business results through innovative and practical solutions. Key job responsibilities will include;

- Fostering strong working relationships with Asset Team members.
- Reservoir characterization and earth modeling projects to quantify resources and recoverable reserves, to identify opportunities for development and to create development/depletion plans
- Reservoir Management planning and process application (ex asset development plans, uncertainty management planning, reservoir surveillance plans, Reservoir Management Quality Fitness Reviews, peer review participation)
- Project management
- Mentoring and training
- Technology development & deployment

Basic Qualifications:

- A masters degree in Geology is required and previous experience in Development Geology is preferred.
- The job will initially be based in New Orleans but will move to Covington, Louisiana upon completion of the brand new office facility currently under construction. The move date is currently schedule for the 1st Quarter of 2008.
