POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Software Process and Quality is a newly created role to lead high-priority operational improvement efforts for the WDPRO Technology organization in the areas of software development methodology, quality assurance, systems analysis, performance management and talent management. The position is responsible for the organization and analysis of systems requirements, the completeness and accuracy of software estimates, and overall improvement in end-to-end software development and quality assurance processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishing the business systems analysis function to be the technology team's primary resource for system requirements and domain expertise.
  • Leading the business systems analysis and quality assurance functional teams.
  • Working with executive stakeholders to drive major process reengineering projects, set priorities for operational improvements and provide change management oversight and structure.
  • Working across the organization to improve upon the performance measures used in the Technology organization for software quality and technical performance, and to put in place the infrastructure necessary for monitoring and continuously improving Technology’s operations.
  • Improving our estimation practices and processes, and driving the overall transformation of software development and delivery to improve efficiency and agility.

    This position requires the ability to direct a variety of diverse – and sometimes conflicting – requests, priorities, and activities. Candidates will need mature management experience combined with the flexibility to interact with people at all levels, within WDPRO and across the Walt Disney Company.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years experience in software design, web development and/or quality assurance
  • 4 years of management experience with a proven track record of managing teams of technical people.
  • Strong background in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience in capturing system requirements in use cases or user stories.
  • Knowledge of how to represent and prioritize non-functional requirements in projects.
  • Solid understanding of how and when to use a variety of software cost estimation approaches such as high-level estimates (LOE), feature point analysis, and detailed bottom up estimation.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of multi-tier Internet system architectures.
  • Working knowledge of how to evaluate performance and stability across distributed systems.
  • Background working on commerce and content-oriented systems.
  • Strong grasp of Internet technologies including HTTP, HTML and Java.
  • Experience with load, stress, black box and white box testing
  • Understanding of test planning, test case management and defect management
  • Experience dealing effectively with non-technical business stakeholders
  • Understanding of how to motivate and achieve ambitious goals
  • Experience with large, complex companies with matrix environments
  • Knowledge of the CMM and/or Six Sigma are pluses but not essential
  • Knowledge of the travel industry is a plus but is not essential
