Job Title: Director, Technology – Digital Commerce

Job Summary

The Director, Technology is one of the senior most technology roles within Sapient, blending delivery, operations, people management and growth, and business development.

The Director, Technology has high-level responsibility for understanding, planning, and leading the delivery of Digital Commerce solutions for clients. This individual should assume the role of the client’s trusted advisor on technology-related topics including technology strategy. The Director will be adept at framing the business value coming from Digital Commerce initiatives and articulating how this enables the client to meet their business goals and objectives.

The Director will provide technical vision and leadership to teams. They will advise teams on technical issues using their expertise in Digital Commerce and with technologies such as ATG, Websphere Commerce and Java/J2EE.

The Director will work with the Client Executive and Service Delivery Leads to ensure that client expectations regarding technology are set and met appropriately. They will also act as a coach, guide and mentor to other team members and be responsible for the growth of those on their team.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead teams in the business and technical design phases of a project
  • Identifies design vs. implementation tradeoffs and limits of the tools being used
  • Drives high and mid-level planning exercises
  • Assesses risk and the impact on estimation efforts
  • Drive complex estimation efforts taking into account one or more projects and effectively communicate risks and dependencies to the client
  • Manages teams of 30 – 60 people through the full life-cycle of the project
  • Effectively manage globally distributed teams
  • Advising clients and teams on technology issues specifically related to Digital Commerce and high traffic sites
  • Coaching & mentoring of team members
  • Communicates difficult scenarios to the client
  • Participates in extending knowledge of their area of specialization within Sapient.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • 10 plus years of experience in enterprise architecture and project/program delivery
  • Experience in a consulting firm highly desired
  • Experience in delivery of multiple large scale Ecommerce projects
  • Expertise with technologies such as ATG, Websphere Commerce and Java/J2ee
  • Experience in design and implementation of a top 100 internet site highly desired
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage multi-track Sapient teams
  • Experience in proposal development
  • Experience in managing distributed and highly matrixed teams
  • Experience in running teams of 30+ people
  • Proven mentoring and coaching abilities to ensure effective growth plans of members of Sapient teams;
  • Ability to drive complex estimates that take one or more projects into account and to effectively communicate risks and dependencies to clients
  • Frequent overnight travel may be required
