Description
The Director of Technical Services is responsible for the management of the engineering department. Our companys engineering focuses on the delivery of Web software projects. Projects range from large scale J2EE eCommerce implementations to integrating business systems using service-oriented architectures. Duties include assisting Program Managers in allocating resources, oversight of numerous Web projects, and making tactical staffing decisions. Other responsibilities include developing engineering process efficiencies, assisting in project scoping, and developing strategic eBusiness solutions. The Director will provide strong leadership for the department, and will be able to build an effective engineering department.

The staff includes a Systems Architect and an engineering staff ranging in experience from reasonably experienced Software Engineers to Senior Software Engineers with 10+ years of experience. There are approximately 10 engineers on staff.

The Director will act as a senior representative of our company with prospective and existing clients. The Director will also be expected to interface with other departments to assure that the engineering organization has required resources, infrastructure and relationships needed to achieve its goals. Participation in the development and execution of the department and company-wide strategy will be required.

Responsibilities:
Work with Program Managers & Systems Architects to ensure that engineering projects are completed on time and within budget
Plan and staff the department to support the objectives of our company.
Maintain a highly-skilled and productive engineering staff
Work with other directors to provide proper training in the technology and tools of our company. uses to develop sites
Lead the process to establish "best practices" and "knowledge sharing" within the technical department
Establish and manage relationships (in conjunction with HR) with key consulting groups that can provide resources to our company when necessary
10+ years experience in software development
5 years experience supervising IT staff
CS degree preferred
Success in fast-paced small team environments
Extensive J2EE architecture and development experience
Experience with SOA
Experience in NET is a plus
Experience with Web 2.0 technologies and platforms is a plus
Excellent communication skills with business groups and technical staff
Experience in strategic planning and implementation
Experience in defining and documenting processes and procedures
Strong verbal and written communication skills
