ETL AB Initio SQL Developer

Description:
This position uses SQL and other tools to automate processes, transform data, perform calculations, and other development tasks in support of all phases of project work. A SQL developer is responsible for working with architects, research staff, and other developers to design, develop, maintain and enhance data centric applications. The long goal for this position is the developer will gain data and business knowledge that can be used in conjunction with technical skills to provide support for staff in the Research Group, Product Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Data Management.
Major Accountabilities:
SQL Development -- Designs, develops, tests, maintains, and documents SQL including:
Ø Writes SQL statements to carry out designs from architecture and ETL development.
Ø Working with architects builds database views to support report development.
Ø Solve complex SQL issues and determine appropriate SQL solutions.
Ø Support production rollouts (off-hours as needed)
Ø Supports warehouse environments (off-hours as needed)
Ø Uses SQL to build test data for report development.
Ø Prepares code documentation in support of program development
Ø Writes details design specifications.
Ø Ensure enhancements meet established quality and end user needs.
Ø Conducts appropriate development testing of applications to ensure quality.
Ø Migrate code throughout system, prepare appropriate docs for code move to different environments.
Collaborates with other team members
Ø Perform code/design reviews/turnovers as an Author, Reviewer, or Moderator.
Ø Participate in requirements gathering, design and planning sessions.
Ø Manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
Ø Effective oral and written communication skills
Ø Assists Product Engineering and Data Management with data issues. Collaborates with Application Development team and other cross functional teams to solve product and customer issues.
Ø Provide technical support and hands-on mentoring in the use of SQL.
Ø In conjunction with data architect, documents final production tables and views as well as intermediate objects.
Ø Gains knowledge and understanding of data content, uses within reports, and sources.
Ø Stay abreast of new technologies, tools, techniques, etc.
Ø Support and advocate for software development best practices.
Ø Other development tasks may also be required.
job Requirements
Education & Required Skills:
Ø A Bachelor's degree (BS, BA) required in Computer Science or related discipline
Ø Five to seven years experience
Ø Minimum of 5 years general technical experience; 5-7 years SQL application development experience preferred. Demonstrated experience in entire application development process.
Ø Specifically, 5-7 years Oracle experience (PL/SQL and Views) and/or TSQL experience tightly coupled to data-driven systems.
Ø Oracle Certification preferred

Knowledge & skills:
Extensive experience Ab Inito and with SQL (senior level SQL development skills)
Ø Proven experience in PL/SQL and/or T-SQL, create complex database queries.
Ø Experience using SQL Querying tools such as WinSQL, AQT. Etc.
Ø Use of SQL to transform data.
Ø Comfortable with using temporary tables; ability to create tables.
Ø Basic understanding of SQL-OLAP syntax
Ø Knowledge of all common SQL commands and syntax
Ø Advanced knowledge using SQL to manipulate data and multi-pass SQL solutions.
Ø Experience with both Unix and NT based systems
Ø Ability to develop, enhance, maintain, and document, data-driven business applications
Ø Ability to solve problems and debug/troubleshoot to provide effective solutions
Ø Experience with performance tuning.
Ø Data Warehousing experience.
Ø Experience with data analysis and quality checks.
Ø Must have clear understanding of relational data design and modeling concepts.
Ø Advanced understanding of software development life cycle.
Ø Must be able to work independently with minimal guidance and be able to meet deadlines.
Ø Must have good communication skills both verbally and in written form and the ability to work as a member of a team. Will often be a member of several teams.
Ø Work in a collaborative office environment with other developers,
business analysts, and a project management team.
