Description
The purpose of this position is to reduce the product life cycle costs, and improve product function, quality, reliability, and safety through Value Engineering principles and methods.
The Value Engineer will provide technical leadership within the VE organization, while collaborating with other internal engineering functions, suppliers, with respect to product design, validation and manufacturing. This position will support company Supply Initiatives and Projects by fulfilling engineering related needs and working with the various engineering and sourcing groups to ensure timely/flawless execution.
This position provides functional expertise for the design, performance and testing of existing products to meet the specified requirements of customer product needs. The work duties require the development of a strong competency in CAD, including 3D modeling, FEA, and other engineering product design tools. This position also provides expertise for the evaluation and testing of product failure modes and requisite solutions to improve product performance. This position interacts on a regular basis with marketing, test lab, operations and procurement to fulfill cost reduction project requirements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Directs, executes and coordinates value engineering projects across all product lines.
Implementation of effective material, design and process cost reductions
Develop design improvements and determine material alternatives that reduce waste and promote cost reduction
Works with vendors and purchasing to procure cost savings and better sources
Employs strategic, global sourcing practices to obtain materials from suppliers at the best cost and consistent with standards of quality, reliability and performance
Works with customer service, designers, customers and manufacturing to improve productivity, quality and product consistency.
Executes activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
Participates in meetings and presentations to customers to discuss current designs and potential product line changes.
Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.
Prepares interim and completion project reports.
Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified product.
Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
Direction of others:
May supervise others on a cross-functional basis for the requirements of effective project management and execution.
Education and Experience:
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering; and 3 or more years related experience and/or training in design engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated skills in Product and Manufacturing Engineering with competence is some or all of the following:

DFSS and DMAIC Six Sigma
Project Management
Production Management, Materials Planning, and Logistics
Cost Accounting, Accounting, and Finance
