Flash Engineer - Disney Online (DOL)


POSITION SUMMARY

The Flash Software Engineer will act as a primary developer on all mission-critical Flash content including the core Application Framework and apps built using the Framework components. Flash is the central technology used in the product so the best candidate will have a demonstrated ability to author Flash code using industry leading best-practices, a degree in Computer Science, and a familiarity with development trends Flash community.

The Flash Software Engineer will:


Support the development of the Application Framework
Support the development of a Flash code base for Applications
Support 3rd-party developers
Help establish best-practices and coding techniques for all of Flash components.


The Flash Software Engineer will utilize industry standard tools including the Eclipse IDE, Ant, CVS and/or Perforce source code management, and Javadoc generators like BLDoc. The Flash Software Engineer will create detailed, professional specification and documentation for all Flash projects and will find appropriate ways to use in-house core modules such as the Embedded Flash Streaming Player.

The Flash Software Engineer should have a combination of engineering experience (Java, C++) and advanced Flash development experience (ActionScript 2 & 3).

Experience developing multiplayer Flash content is a plus.

The product will make extensive use of client-server interaction so the Flash Software Engineer should have experience developing Flash code that utilizes XML send/ load, socket communication, and Web Services.

One of the main goals of the Flash Software Engineer will be to create a maintainable, re-usable library of Flash code. This code must be well-documented and the documentation must be kept current. The Flash Software Engineer will help ensure that internal and external code development adheres to documentation guidelines set by the Technical Lead.


QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION


Must have three years of experience developing object-oriented interactive applications using Java/J2ME, C++, or ActionScript 2 & 3.
Must have extensive knowledge of interactive content including games, game types, and game platforms.
Must have first-hand experience with online community applications including multiplayer games, IM, leader boards, tournaments, message boards, etc.
Must have knowledge of, and interest in, Disney kids’ online entertainment. Online entertainment experience required, family oriented entertainment a plus.
Must have experience developing content using prominent in-browser platform technologies
Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills.
Must but able to multitask, plan schedules, adhere to deadlines and manage all details.
Must have an ability to prepare and maintain documentation.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

Must have expertise in Java and/or C++ in addition to ActionScript 2. Must have experiences developing Flash client apps that utilize Web Services and Socket communication. Must have experience developing interactive, in-browser content. Must have knowledge of operating systems and browser limitations. Must have experience with source code management systems (CVS, Perforce).
