Description

SUMMARY

Responsible for the planning, design, and development of Embedded and PC based software programs both within the Optelecom Engineering Department and with outside contractors, as applies.  Serves as the chief software scientist.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Participates in the decision making process concerning future product development and technology direction.

 

Works with the marketing department to specify software for specific customer applications.

 

Establishes and maintains a formal software development process that include design methodology and control, coding standards, software documentation, test procedures and related material.

 

Identifies and procures tools that aid in software development.

 

Estimates time, cost and manpower assignments for development projects.

 

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience plus five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Skills required include detailed knowledge of the design methodology of software engineering and application of the latest technology to design problems.
