IT DIRECTOR 1

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides executive level direction and leadership for a large organization in IT Operations, spanning multiple locations, countries and cultures. Defines and manages the strategy, goals and operations of the group. Accountable for quality and availability of IT Operations client services such as messaging, home directory and desktop support. Executive responsibility for key financial and human resource processes within the organization, including staffing, budget, resource allocation and performance management. As a second level manager, provides leadership coaching and development to subordinate managers. Represents the organization at executive-level meetings, addressing customer requirements and advocating solutions incorporating IT standards and best practices. Executive level escalation point for technical and services issues. Establishes group priorities, objectives, strategic milestones and goals. Leads major initiatives or project teams (e.g. SunSigma or SunShot teams) with substantial impact upon organizational effectiveness, quality and profitability. Advises senior executive management on key decisions impacting strategic planning and organizational development. Manages and approves financial commitments such as customer agreements, vendor selection, major capital purchases and partnerships with other organizations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Bachelor degree (Masters/MBA preferred) and 10+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years as a second-level manager or equivalent combination of education/experience. Extensive knowledge of the IT industry, Sun's competitive environment and key organizational issues. Advanced skills in coaching, influencing and managing employee professional development in a highly matrixed organization. Excellent skills in communicating and building relationships across cultures, driving aggressive changes and managing customer expectations in a technical support environment.
