The person needs to be fluent and fairly expert in the following:
MS Office suite, particularly Word. They need to know Word to the expert level and few outside legal are at this level. They need to understand and be able to ariticulate the differences and interactions between macros, styles and templates. Work here is on large, complex documents. 100+ page documents with images, footers, headers, numbering, tables, etc all in the same document are not uncommon.

Softwise Innova or other customized macro suite
Hummingbird PCDocs/DM5 document management (or iManage, it's primary competitor in the legal space)
Various PDF creation and handling tools
HP printers and drivers (these have profound effects on the output of documents above.)

Various other legal apps are helpful, but not critical such as:
Prolaw
Livenote
Concordance/Opticon
Trial Director
Sanction
Elite/Webview
ADP eTime

Fundamental and conceptual (not detailed) knowledge of the following infrastructure:

TCP/IP....routing, firewalling,e tc
Email flow, primarily SMTP email
Basic network topology...hubs, switches, routers, NICs, etc
Basic business telephone system troubleshooting (is it the cable, the handset or a service problem, etc)df-tc
