Description
IT SECURITY ENGINEER Provides management and oversight for VoIP network, network planning, design, and implementation of the network services and associated OS system management; security/firewall management, and network troubleshooting. Assists with the establishment and implementation of campus wiring standards along with the campus CATV system, and the integration of voice/video/data systems. Network Planning and Management ? Plans, designs, and implements sophisticated networks at all layers. Analyzes Ethernet and examines all applications layers on the network to include frequent modifications to network architecture and topologies. ? Manages, troubleshoots, and monitors network performance using network management systems, protocol analyzers and associated OS tools to gather statistical information and detect/correct potential problems. ? Maintains records of network performance trends to assist in future design and expansion projects. ? Establishes network communications standards. ? Provides leadership while making a reasonable effort to work with the campus community to advise and ensure that network application and project planning is done cooperatively and is compatible with the College network systems. Fosters respectful communication and collaboration within a diverse community. ? Investigates and learns new protocols, network transport technologies, network management systems and techniques. ? Determines if new technologies can/should be integrated into the network to enhance performance or usefulness. ? Works off-hours to ensure network availability for times of primary usage. Voice over IP (VoIP) Systems ? Designs, deploys and manages VoIP systems to include configuration, deployment and management of VoIP systems and infrastructure. ? Provides primary support for upgrades, configuration and troubleshooting of the voice system. ? Maintains currency with industry trends for voice services. ? Communicates with individuals and departments to develop a long-term strategy to supply voice/video/data communications to the Client and to assist in the development and growth of a detailed wire-security policy. Firewalls Systems ? Designs, deploys and manages firewall systems to include configuration of deployment and management of firewalls on NT and Linux platforms and enterprise firewall management system. ? Ensues design emphasis is on network speed and most current firewall and security techniques. ? Communicates with individuals and departments to develop a long-term strategy to supply voice/video/data communications to the Client and to assist in the development and growth of a detailed wire-security policy. NOC Server Management ? Assists in the setup, deploy, and management of NOC servers. ? Provides web and ftp service for maintenance of network configurations files, network maps and other documentation, manuals, network statistics, and graphs. ? Applies a knowledge of PERL AWK and other scripting languages and methods to accomplish the work ? Develops rigorous system administration practices for Linux Systems. Network Administration ? Designs, deploys, and manages Domain Name Service and DHCP service for the College System to include application of hardware, OS, DNS, and DHCP software. ? Provides a reliable service at moderate cost with strong security through appropriate OS, service configuration and version maintenance. ? Designs systems for ease of use, high performance, and high availability. ? Maintains and improves DNS support for AD domain - Windows 2000servers Performs other duties as assigned. Position Requirements ? Skills & Knowledge ? Leadership and management skills. ? Demands broad and deep knowledge of multiple network protocols. ? Working knowledge of security policy development and deployment. ? Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population in an education environment. ? Experience ? Six plus years experience in the deployment and management of complicated campus networks, preferably in a campus environment. ? Experience with VoIP systems in a production environment. ? Education ? Bachelor's Degree in related field or the equivalent.
