IT Systems & Applications Administrator

Vertica Systems is looking for an experienced System Administrator who will be responsible for maintaining and improving the Linux systems and applications infrastructure to support the development of our Linux-based distributed database product.

The main responsibilities for the role are:

·        Manage our data center, in particular Linux hardware, network, operating systems and storage. You will be expected to manage a large number of systems efficiently with an eye towards reduced lead-times and cost to deployment.

·        Administer internal applications such as source code control system, bug tracking and wikis. Implement customizations and workflows within these applications whenever required.

·        Configure, price, order and set up new hardware as and when required.

·        Support the QA and release management functions by improving the IT infrastructure for testing and creating builds on various platforms.

A qualified candidate must:

·        Have significant experience in managing a data center with 25-30 Linux systems. Must have done installation and configurations of multiple flavors of Linux including RedHat, SUSE and Debian, and dealt with hardware from multiple vendors such as Dell, HP, etc.

·        Experience with network and storage configuration in a Unix/Linux environment including NFS, DNS, SANs, firewalls, etc.

·        Be fluent in Unix shell scripting with bash, and programming in Python or Perl.

·        Have experience with administration and customization of collaboration applications such as CVS, Subversion, Bugzilla, MediaWiki, Confluence and Jira.

·        Show a strong inclination towards bringing automation and predictability to IT processes and be able to operate with minimal supervision.

·        Demonstrate the ability to work in a startup environment under strict resource and time constraints.

·        Demonstrate the flexibility to learn and deploy new technology whenever required. 

The following qualifications would be a plus:

·        Experience with build systems and release management procedures

·        Experience with tools and processes for a Linux “Grid” environment

·        Experience with hosted hardware environments

·        Experience with VMWare and other virtualization technologies.
