Description
The person who accepts this position will be working on a legacy customer information system where the batch portion is written in COBOL with proprietary middleware connecting the business functionality with the Sybase database. The online portion, used minimally in this position, is written in C with proprietary universal coding tools (UCT). Specifically, this person will be supporting collections work which includes credit bureau reporting, referrals to collection agency, and other actions to support collection of money from non-payers. Development work is done on a Unix platform. df-tc

Experience/Skills
Qualifications:
. Candidates must have a 4-year degree in Information.
. Course work or previous experience must include the COBOL programming language, working with a relational database such as Sybase or DB2, and working knowledge of SQL.
. The candidate must also have good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical functionality in business terms.
. Would prefer someone with experience using a Unix operating system, familiarity with an automated job scheduler such as Autosys, experience using a debugging tool such as Animator, experience with using encryption tools such as PGP, and understanding of file transfer protocol (ftp) for sending files to outside vendors.
. Persons having experience with collections are desired.
. Prefer someone who is able to read code and use it to understand the business process it supports.
. Some knowledge of proprietary tools would be a plus.
