Interactive Design Manager Job Description:
The Interactive Design Manager is a creative thinker able to translate ideas and concepts into a uniquely Disney site experience that celebrates our core franchises, showcases our exclusive Disney merchandise and converts shoppers into buyers. The successful candidate is expected to be fluent in the technologies that define our world and passionate about the way they're shaping our future. The Interactive Design Manager will split their time between managing 2-3 Interactive Designers; providing art direction and creative leadership for all DisneyStore.com initiatives; as well as perform hands-on design. The incumbent will also manage all phases of the design process including concept development, comps and production-ready art. They will also review site analytics reports to continuously tune creative executions and drive better and better performance.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the visual design of e-commerce and marketing initiatives
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Interactive team
  • Plan, assign and manage projects/assignments based on timing, skill set, complexity, and resource availability
  • Design and execute a variety of web site creative assets including home page creative, landing pages, banner ads and interactive multi-media with a keen sensitivity of the final output
  • Create effective designs and design templates to improve re-usability
  • Continuously improve design to be more interactive, engaging and relevant to our different Guest segments
  • Ensure that visual design solutions meet design style guides and standards
  • Establish design style guides and ensure that all creative executions are visually compelling, align with the strategic goals and are implemented with appropriate consistency to the style guide
  • Partner with other departments to insure objectives, milestones and creative reviews are outlined and understood
  • Continuously improve design process, workflow, and coordination between departments
  • Manage process for archiving visual design assets and create reusable design components
  • Promote innovation and lead break-through creative thinking
  • Provide Art direction for photo/video shoots
  • Track and implement emerging trends in interactive technologies, design styles and marketing communication tactics
  • Defend design decisions when necessary and facilitate conflict resolution
  • Attract, recruit and retain new talent and maintain strong depth of talent at all times
  • Oversee the selection of external vendors and provide creative direction
    Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or related field
  • 5 years of comprehensive design experience
  • Solid portfolio with a range of creative samples that demonstrate relevant work across media
  • Must have online design experience designing web sites, e-commerce, marketing, email and email landing pages
  • Must be able to interpret feedback and integrate it into creative concepts and design
  • Must have previous experience managing a team
  • Knowledge and application of HTML is required
  • Expert conceptual and design skills
  • Must be able to operate both Mac and PC operating systems.
  • Must be expert in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand
  • Must be proficient in: CS2 or CS3, and Flash.
  • Impeccable design aesthetic and deep knowledge of design and typography
  • Well-versed in user-centered design methods
  • Strong familiarity with the strengths and limitations of HTML/CSS design
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to strive to deliver award-winning design
  • Additional knowledge of CSS/Javascript is a plus but not a must-have
  • Basic understanding of ActionScript (the interactive core of flash animation) is encouraged (advanced flash DEVELOPMENT as opposed to flash DESIGN is a huge plus)
  • Passionate attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to foster and grow great ideas
  • Ability to gracefully handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective presentation skills; ability to articulate and communicate ideas clearly
