Description
Primary Purpose of Position

This position is for a developer with experience and knowledge of Java and J2EE technologies. Will primarily be involved as a staff programmer maintaining and enhancing an enterprise J2EE application utilizing IBM tools and products.

Duties and Responsibilities

Analysis and coding of enhancements utilizing specifications.
Insurance business process analysis, design and documentation.
Participate in Business requirements reviews and initial technical design.

Knowledge and Skill

3-5 years of development experience utilizing Java and J2EE. Candidate should be well versed in the fundamentals of the Java programming language and the J2EE specification. Should have good working knowledge of Servlets, JSP, MVC frameworks, and UML and have experience with their implementation in a production environment. Experience with JMS, EJB, and web services is a highly desired skill set. Good working knowledge of SQL is imperative. Should have experience utilizing best practices and have worked with industry standard design patterns. Insurance domain business knowledge would definitely be an asset. Candidate should possess a good working knowledge of the full life cycle development process. Experience using IBM products such as Websphere Application Studio 5.xx, Websphere Application server 5.xx, and DB2 would be advantageous to the candidate. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Javascript are also valuable skills. Understanding the importance of documentation and knowledge of unit and integration testing at the coding level is also important. Requires either a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, or demonstrated equivalent via experience.

Problem Solving and Decision Making

Ability to work in a team environment is necessary. A high level of analytical and technical skills must be possessed. Position requires the ability to interface with both peers and clients utilizing good communications skills. Should be a self starter and be able to solve complex problems through research, logical evaluation and question asking. Candidate should be able to demonstrate proficiency and aptitude in developing technical solutions to business problems, implementing those solutions at the coding level and seeing those solutions through the delivery process. Candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a release oriented software development environment utilizing code management software and techniques. Candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to be organized and their ability to bring organization to the process of merging business needs with software solutions delivery. Listening skills and good written communication skills are imperative.
