Description
This is a fully proficient technical expert position in which the incumbent applies comprehensive working knowledge of computing/operating systems concepts, practices, and procedures to the most complex assignments, equipment, and/or operating environments according to established procedures; demonstrates specialized mastery in resolving extremely more complex problems. May assist Help Desk in resolving and reporting operations problems. May act as senior master console operator in complex multiple vendor environments.

REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates the daily activities of a 24/7 Data Center and staff as well as monitors all systems to ensure full operating capacity.

Ensures all necessary data files are accounted for and available in order to initiate each processing task. May perform required equipment set-up.

Operates (unassisted) stand-alone and attached equipment to complete each processing task. Monitors progress ensuring that the operating system and its subservient software is performing at optimal processing levels. May act as senior master console operator for one or more computer systems, controlling movement of jobs to/from other systems to ensure operational efficiency.

Identifies systems hardware and software malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action as necessary to troubleshoot/resolve operating problems referring to established procedures and/or escalates problems internally within the department as necessary, and/or externally with manufacturers, service vendors and carriers.

Frequently responds to requests from systems and applications software and hardware support personnel and users for operations assistance. Response/assistance may include powering individual equipment and entire systems down and up, forcing hardware or software components into a quiescent state, varying components off-line, adjusting priorities, disabling applications and/or canceling applications.

Performs associated back-up and error recovery/retrievals including bringing the system to an operationally ready state after a system failure or shutdown, monitoring and responding to operating system messages, and effecting recovery from abnormal job terminations or systems problems, and/or equipment maintenance (including powering up or down). May switch jobs from one system to another due to system failure or scheduled system maintenance.

Assists systems programmers or appropriate operations support staff in developing operational procedures. Makes recommendations in operations to improve efficiency.

Monitors customer service issues and responds immediately to customer complaints.

Maintains scheduled reports of operations activities including trouble reports, logs, etc., and analyzes them for problem patterns. Ensures adherence to department policies/procedures and generates requested or required reports for customers and management.

Provides work direction to and assists in training less experience computer operators; coordinates related on-site activities. Performs shift supervision in the absence of other more senior personnel; capable of performing all job duties of lower level Computer Operators.df-tc
