CDI has an Immediate Need for a LEAD ENGINEER - METALLURGIST

1+ year contract assignment in Pontiac, MI 48341

Overall Experience: 04 -06 years

Position Description:
Responsible for performing chemical or metallurgical analysis or tests and materials and substances used in products and manufacturing processes.
Work is of a technical nature, calling for the ability to make decisions within the limits of general policies and procedures
Maintains technical control of production departments chemical or metallurgical processes including setting up and writing control and process sheets
Instructs production and quality control personnel in the application of metallurgical or chemical processes
Make decisions within the limits of general standards or procedures.
Work without continual supervision, but is frequently instructed and checked by supervisor.
Conducts analysis and tests
Conducts field and plant failure studies, both on-site and lab based
Approves material meeting established criteria and reports exceptions.
Frequent contact with others outside the work group.
Operates, physics, metallurgical or chemical lab equipment to perform sample evaluations.
Solves manufacturability problems as they relate to metallurgical or chemical matters.
Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Candidates need to have a metallurgist background and be familiar with stamping and steel mill procedures.
Candidate will be working on supplier quality issues in these areas. Candidates must be familiar with manufacturing processes and have a solid manufacturing background.
Candidates will also be responsible for making presentations to certain groups at company to present their progress.
Most of the travel will be local but candidates may have to travel overnight at times though.
Thorough knowledge of materials, substances and their characteristics.
Oral and written communications skills.
Medium level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
Analytical ability where problems are somewhat complex.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING
College Degree with a major in chemistry, physics or metallurgical engineering is preferreddf-tc
