LINUX Engineer Consultant/SpecialistJob Description: Location: CA, CoronaJob Description:Linux Services plans, engineers and supports multiple system software products used within the Linux infrastructure. Operationally this includes responsibilities covering design, release, change, configuration and problem management.The Linux Services mission is to ensure that our customers mission-critical software and systems are of the highest quality, reliability and serviceability. A central part of our mission is to acquire, develop and promote the very best in engineering practices, supported and developed using quality standards and performance metrics.Job Responsibilities * Designing and planning the configuration of all aspects of the Linux infrastructure to include hardware and software product selection* Documenting technical and non-functional requirements* Translating non-functional requirements into technical designs and produce associated documentation* Engineering server solutions for project managers and technical teams and produce design documents* Examining applications and systems to determine eligibility for LINUX* Defining, validating, ordering and tracking of real and virtual server configurations* Working with Enterprise Operations LINUX administrators to resolve placement, operational or capacity/performance issues* Project work to include providing time/cost estimates, creating project plans and managing pieces of projects; overseeing small to medium sized projects * Conduct and participate in meetings, reviews and process improvement activities* Providing consultative support to server consolidation and/or remediation projects* Provide training to other engineers* Compile and report metrics for management * Cross train into other software products when needs ariseQualifications * The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience plus a minimum of four years technical experience with LINUX in a large complex environment. * Working experience must include hands on experience with x86 hardware, and Linux administration. Knowledge of virtual LINUX environments such as Xen or zVM is preferred. The candidate should have an application orientation and be able to quickly perform assessments of applications viability for deployment on Linux. * Working experience of infrastructure networking, storage configuration, monitoring and management tools is essential. The candidate should also be conversant with processes and mechanisms to manager infrastructure performance and provisioning capacity. * Solid Perl and Shell scripting ability for the purposes of automating tasks and integrating products.* Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required along with strong analytical skills. The candidate should be familiar with technical documentation that commonly is required throughout a standard systems development lifecycle and be able to create it. The candidate must be able to conduct research and to produce quality documentation.* Knowledge with any of the following products is a plus: IBM Director, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Novell Identity Manager and Novell Zenworks.Please visit jobs.kp.org for complete qualifications and job submission details.
