Description
The Consultant Business Systems will work as part of a team that is dedicated to providing technical leadership and constant project implementation support for the Credit Card Applications Processing and Originations area. The technical environment is comprised of multiple, complex technologies (CICS, VSAM, DB2, MQ Series, Internet, etc.). Systems and solutions are complex, requiring high-volume, high-speed and high-availability for constant transaction processing. Project release and ongoing maintenance is fast paced. The ideal candidate has knowledge and experience in the business arena, is a strong team player, and has knowledge and experience in methodical, complex applications design and development in similar technical environments.





The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Provide technical leadership and consultation. Provides system development and technical support for highly complex systems. Implement strategies to address automation, productivity and infrastructure problems and issues. Plan and coordinate tests and identifies prevention opportunities. Maintain expert knowledge in specialized systems or in multiple systems.

  • Provide direct guidance in planning, designing, programming, documentation and implementation of the systems.

  • Perform reviews of new and existing systems to ensure operational integrity and accomplishment of stated objectives.

  • Designs, codes, test, debugs and documents programs. Analyze vendor solutions and coordinates technology, productivity and performance initiatives.

  • Coordinate activities of assigned personnel and projects. Control project risks and impact on business and strategic plans.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Assist in defining and delivering global and strategic technical projects. Identify and address interfacing functions and applications affected by projects.

  • Advise business staff or unit of technology uses to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Provide technical analysis and solutions to business issues, provides consultation, researches and implements technical alternatives, and maintains awareness of business technology strategies and the technical infrastructure to meet business requirements.

  • Provide periodic on call support on a 24X7 rotation basis.

  • Seek technical and professional information and industry knowledge in the area of applications processing and originations to enhance business and team knowledge of opportunities to improve our processes, approaches and systems.

  • Adhere strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices; report control weaknesses, compliance breaches and operational loss events.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned, support the Company’s Diversity programs.

Experience/Skills
This position requires an individual with:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with a major or minor in computer science or related field, and a minimum of seven years proven, hands on experience in technical applications development.
  • The ideal candidate has a minimum of three years experience as a project/technical lead in a similar technical environment.
  • A minimum of seven to ten years experience in coding and designing online and batch applications with CICS, DB2, MQ Series and COBOL on the IBM Mainframe Platform.
  • Experience in the financial services industry, specifically in the credit card or insurance industry is a big plus.
  • Ambition to grow and expand skills technically/managerially, and from a business/commercial perspective required.
  • Experience in designing and developing applications on the Open Systems platform using Powerbuilder/JSP is a plus.
  • Experience in optimizing online and batch applications that use CICS/DB2/MQ Series in the IBM Mainframe platform a big plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills a plus; demonstrated ability to apply multiple technologies to business situations and identify/apply productivity improvements, blending the technical environment with strategic direction, a plus.
  • Proven experience in leading efforts and/or experience working in and/or actively supporting project management activities is a plus.
