We have an immediate need within our Corporate Operations department in Emeryville, CA for an experienced Linux Administrator who will be responsible for implementing, managing and documenting a variety of Linux-based servers. In addition, this person will act as a junior network engineer.


Job Summary:



The primary role of this position is to support several Linux based application servers. These servers run NAGIOS, Cacti, MRTG and other network monitoring tools, as well as ftpd, bind, and other miscellaneous tasks. As this position will also fill the role of junior network administrator, candidates must have a strong understanding of TCP/IP and basic layer 2 and layer 3 routing concepts and some familiarity with Cisco switches, routers, PIX firewalls. Infrequent travel may be required as well as on-call duty.

Qualifications:



At least 3-6 years of experience in a hands-on Linux administration role.

At least 1 year of RedHat administration experience.

At least 2 years of network administration and/or troubleshooting experience.

Strong understanding of client-server software and networking components, server architectures, server performance bottlenecks, network and storage infrastructures.

Excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills are required.

Cisco networking certifications are a plus.

Email/SMTP administration skills are a plus.



Job Description:



Install, support and administration of servers running RedHat Linux and possibly other Linux distributions.

Troubleshoot Linux performance issues and other server-related issues in a timely fashion.

Troubleshoot network issues and servers as a backup to our senior network administrator. This may require participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Hands-on involvement with installation, management and support for a complex, highly available network infrastructure.

Generate and maintain appropriate documentation for internal and external consumption on all aspects of our network infrastructure.

Assist our senior network administrator with troubleshooting network performance and stability issues.

Provision network and other resources as needed at local and remote facilities.

Work with our senior network administrator in facilities build outs.

Communicate status and progress effectively.
