Description
Currenting we are seeking a short term (6 month maximum) contractor to provide technical advice to the client Information Technology management regarding the optimal design, configuration, and operations of SuSE Linux and Solaris operating systems which host critical business applications. The selected candidate will collaborate with the client's Database Administration Team and Infrastructure Support Teams responsible for mainframe, mainframe middleware tools, Intel server, and network operations and assist management and employee staff with problem definition, hardware recommendations, hardware installation plans for relieving potential capacity and performance bottlenecks, and providing high availability for critical system hosts.

Other responsibilities will include:
• Integration design, planning, and implementation to link UNIX hosts to storage area networks (SAN).
• Design and implementation of database and system backups for system restoration and disaster recovery.
• Analysis of multiple vendor solutions and design of integration approaches to maintain system reliability and availability.

Critical system hosts that will be supported by design, performance management, and troubleshooting are as follows:
• Oracle 10g databases on Solaris version 10,
• Integrating Solaris and SuSE Linux servers with a Clariion CX500 SAN via EMC PowerPath, QLogic, and Sun Leadville interfaces,
• Special purpose applications (e.g., SAS Enterprise Server, ESRI ArcView, On Point Technology Aware, O*Net AutoCoder) on Solaris and SuSE Linux,
• Network management applications including Cisco NetRegistrar, CWSI, and DNS on Solaris 9,
• Implementation of LTO3 tape backups using Symantec Net Back Up.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements.
Required:
• Minimum of (5) years experience supporting critical business applications on the Solaris operating system.
• Minimum of (2) years experience supporting Oracle’s database management system (v. 10g) with ASM.
• Minimum of (2) years experience with SuSe Linux systems administration.
• Minimum of (1) year experience with SuSE Linux Enterprise Server v. 10.
• Minimum of (3) years performing UNIX systems and database backup administration.
• Demonstrate familiarity with EMC SAN including fiber channel device configuration and Power Path management.

Preferred:
• Knowledge and experience with Symantec Net Backup.
• Proficient consulting skills. (Candidate will be working with and advising senior technical and management staff of ESC).df-tc
