Description

Adecco Engineering and Technical, a division of the world leader in the recruitment of engineering and information technology professionals, has an immediate opening for a Linux System Administrator on a Contract opportunity with a leading company in the East Bay.



Specific duties include:
* Proposes and implements highly complex systems monitoring/management enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system (Nagios, Cacti, cfengine, Puppet, etc.).
* Analyzes, acquires, installs, modifies and supports operating systems, databases, utilities and Internet/intranet-related tools.
* Conducts highly complex systems programming and systems support activities, including enterprise authentication/authorization system integration.
* Creates and maintains documentation of systems processes and procedures.
* Resolves complex user requests referred by junior administrators.
* Administers security policies to control access to systems. Performs complex security control activities to prevent hackers from infiltrating information. Maintains complex security systems for Servers and firewalls.
* Works with customers to identify business requirements and suggests service improvements and/or new technology directions.
* Interacts with senior internal and external personnel. May lead a team of systems/infrastructure professionals.

Position involves serving as the technical administrator for hardware, operating systems, and network management. Plans and coordinates the installation, configuration, and testing of hardware and software components. Work may involve central or departmental computer systems and networks. Includes administration of Web infrastructure applications (apache, tomcat, etc.).

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting effectively with upper management. In addition, this position requires:





* Able to work independently, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
* Advanced knowledge of all aspects of operating system administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printer systems, system security techniques/best practices, system monitoring/management best practices, installing third-party software.
* Has advanced understanding of the Linux operating system. Understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication device drivers, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), and system tuning.
