We are currently seeking a Manager Data Warehouse. This person can be based out ofSan Antonio, TX or Atlanta, GA.

Position Summary
The Manager Data Warehouse is responsible for all facets of the enterprise-level data warehouse solution for Harland Clarke. The major focus areas include: strategic direction, alignment with business units, development of individual solutions, and operation of the data warehouse. This is a front-line management position with up to 8 direct reports.

Strategic Direction: The Data Warehouse Manager needs to develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and industry institutions/leaders to insure that technology direction and capabilities are leveraged within Harland Clarke. This includes working with senior and executive management on setting the architectural and business direction for the warehouse.

Alignment with Business Units: Close partnership with the both established and emerging business units will be required to insure initiatives within the data warehouse team are focused to deliver maximum value to the enterprise. Consolidation of information from multiple source and source systems will need to be part of the strategic direction and will be driven by the business direction. External acquisitions and internal business re-alignment activities will require the data warehouse to adapt and insure a 'single-source-of-truth' to the enterprise.

Development of Individual Solutions: Lead a dedicated team of data warehouse professionals, to deliver specific solutions to meet the needs identified by the above activities. Adherence to a defined SDLC and partnership with other groups will be required to insure projects are delivered on-time and within budget. Project teams will be matrixed leveraging resources from several other groups.

Operation of the Data Warehouse: Definition, tracking, and attainment of SLA's to insure a high level of data quality and availability of the environment. This includes responsibility for data integrity, security, and accuracy. This includes maintenance of all aspects of the delivered solution(s) as well as troubleshooting and resolution of production issues.


Key Duties / Responsibilities - Essential duties are identified by asterisks.
Defines and builds the Data Warehouse team. This includes management of all the activities of the Data Warehouse staff. Supervisory responsibilities include: hiring of staff, conducting performance reviews, counseling, personal development planning, termination, recommendations for Pay-for-Performance increases and promotions. This also includes establishing strong working relationships with interfacing groups (architecture, business, system administrator, database administrators, quality assurance, project management, etc). (20%).

Defines and develops new functionality. Works with business sponsors to identify, scope, and define projects to deliver additional functionality and/or content in the data warehouse. Responsible for the complete development process (requirements, design, construction, interfaces, testing, implementation) including delivery on-time and on-budget. (25%).

Supports the implemented systems. Partners with other IT and business groups to insure that the implemented systems are fully supported. Activities include: backup and recovery, capacity planning, performance tuning, functional and technical upgrades, Service Level Agreement (SLA) compliance, security and regulatory compliance, change and release management activities, etc. (25%).

Maintains technical expertise and leadership. Establishes relationship with vendors and industry organizations to maintain knowledge and help drive technical direction on initiatives and products critical to the company. Leads policy and project initiatives to leverage technology to define and deliver business value. (15%).

Advances the concept of 'data as an asset'. Partners with other IT and business groups and initiatives to insure that we promote and protect our data assets. This includes involvement with the business and technical teams to define the role of data within our projects and products. Initiatives around development of an enterprise data model, master data management program, and data stewardship role are included in this role. (15%).

Experience / Skills / Abilities Required
2-3 years as a team lead or supervisor.
3+ years in a Data Warehouse role.
3+ years experience with SAP BW/BI, or equivalent.
Proficient with data modeling concepts.
Experience with application development and maintenance.
Experience with mainframe and distributed technologies.
Experience with multiple data warehouse technologies/architectures.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead and motivate other employees.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate with technical, business, and executive resources.


Supervisory Responsibility
Manages a staff of up to 8 data warehouse resources. Directs work assignments of staff, reviews and evaluates work performance and conducts salary planning.

Communication & Contacts Required
Must be able to communicate with executive management from both the business and IT areas as well as technical and front-line resources. Must be able to establish strong working relationships with other internal groups and suppliers.

Decision Making
Has the responsibility of making decision on all aspects of data warehouse environment; implementation, new release deployment, security, technology direction, etc. Administers staff disciplinary measures as required. Empowered to act on behalf of direct manager. Empowered to escalate incident response as necessary to address customer satisfaction issues and/or service level commitments.
