Position Summary: This position will be based in Toronto, Canada. Successful candidate must be open to relocation.

As a department resource, to lead, assist, co-ordinate various electrical, instrumentation and controls projects and initiatives to accomplish the department's goals and objectives relating to maintenance and capital.

Engineering of various Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Systems within the Plant Standards and as per the specific requirement of each project.

Effectively manage multiple projects achieving cost, performance and delivery of expectations.

Inspection, repair and troubleshoot on all production machinery and electrical equipment.

Assist in the design, implementation and commissioning of equipment modifications related to electrical and electronic controls.

Experience with project work, from inception to startup. Preparing design analysis, cost estimates and bid proposals.

Participates with others or works alone to upgrade existing controls software and hardware for changes in processes or operating philosophy.

Maintain the plant controls at a high level of availability and to ensure timely and efficient application of new technology.

Acts as a technical resource to the Controls Technicians, Controls & Instrumentation Manager, department staff, operations and maintenance personnel and contractors.

Ensures all work is carried out in a safe manner conforming to all standards established procedure regulations (ie. OHSA & Electrical Code book).

Maintains Electrical Standards and procedures throughout all controls systems design.

Maintain up to date documentation on all in-plant control systems; and reference material for Electrician/Technicians.

Supports the Production Supervisors in day to day technical activities and manufacturing operations.

Required to enter Work Orders, spec-out and procurement of equipment and recommend spare inventory items and levels.

Assist in training programs for equipment operators and skilled trades.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Self Starter. Minimal supervision. Work is assigned in terms of specific objectives, priorities and available resources.

Performance is reviewed on a regular basis against set objectives.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work environment allows the incumbent to move around freely. Works out of the general office with all the necessary tools (phone, desk, computer, etc.), that will allow the incumbent to analyze reports, complete designs, send emails answer phone, etc.

Ability to work in a unionized environment (skill trades and operators).

Spends significant portion of time on the plant floor with operators, trades and contractors during normal operation and during construction work.

Adherence to safety regulations, union contracts, schedules cost, and quality targets.

OT may be required periodically.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements: Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering; P.Eng designation (or eligible) preferred along with 4+ years of related experience in an industrial automated environment, preferably food & beverage.

Will consider Electrical/Controls Technologist (CET) with 7+ years experience.

Knowledge of high speed packaging equipment, industrial communication networks (Ethernet, DH+) and vision systems in a food & beverage environment an asset (For Packaging).

Must be proficient in PLC programming (AB PLC5 and SLC) and applications.

Familiarity with instrumentation.

Familiarity with HMI (Panelmate) or SCADA (Fix Intellution) an asset.

Familiarity with servers, Win NT4, Win2000.
AutoCad experience with Electrical Schematics (panel, circuitry design, termination drawing, etc).

Must be analytical with strong troubleshooting skills, willing to take initiative and have a positive attitude with a results oriented work ethic.

Hands on experience a MUST (significant portion of time on the plant floor).

Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
