Berean Group is seeking a Mainframe Programmer w/Advantage:gen and COBOL





Skills Needed:




DB2 access path (analyzing/ tuning)

BMC catalog manager/DB2 Catalog

Apptune or other performance analyzer

Coolgen development, data modeling and data manipulation

SQL, SPUFI, JCL, Stored Procedures

Cobol




Position Description:



The ideal candidate in this position, will be a member of the Performance-Tuning team, he or she will work closely with the FS Development team and with the System Testing testers throughout all the projects phases. Will analyze requirements and code (both Advantage:gen and COBOL) and maintain statistics regarding the performance of the software. The chosen candidate will provide solutions to develop whenever necessary regarding the improvement of code and SQL. Will work with DBAs to find the best solution for new queries that will be introduced to the application and for the changed ones, will ensure the access path is still as efficient as possible. Will work with tools (Apptune, Omegamon, Strobe) in a DB2 environment on MVS/ZOS operating system. Candidate will also maintain accurate documentation regarding the statistics and analysis gathered throughout the life cycle of the release. As well as working with other entities (system testing , developers, User acceptance testers) on software defects and issues resolution and Will write or assist in writing technical documentation, resolve technical problems, and assist with on-going production support.





Additional Skills:

4 years experience in analyzing, designing and developing Advantage:gen (Cool:gen) applications in On-line and Batch environments also on a COBOL/DB2 platform.

Proficient in using JCL.

Knowledgeable in CICS and MQ architecture and transaction processing.

Strong knowledge of DB2 v7 or higher and the related database items (SQL, SPUFI, QMF, Store Procedures, DB2 catalog)

Familiar with performance aspects of database accessing (Explain, Indexing, Partitioning etc). Knowledge and familiarity with Performance monitoring and analyzing tools: Apptune, Omegamon, Strobe.

Excellent written and verbal skills as well as communication are essential for the successful candidate
